FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. How long do you hold strays?

A. We try to hold adoptable dogs until a qualified home is found. Most cats are held until adopted. Some special cases may be given to a cat rescue group.

Q. How long is a dog allowed to bark?

A. The length of time a dog is permitted to bark is nonspecific. Many variables are taken into consideration making each situation different. Consequently, the resolutions may vary accordingly. ord. 505.11

Q. Are cats permitted to run at large?

A. NO! Cats must be confined to their owner’s property at all times. In addition they must wear a current city cat license. ord. 505.09

Q. Do you respond to wildlife calls?

A. We respond to calls of fatally injured, injured wildlife and wildlife that have entered the living area of a home. Animals that have entered an attic or chimney should be removed by a licensed professional nuisance trapper. This is to insure that the young are not left behind.

Q. How many warnings do I get before a ticket is written for violation of an animal ordinance?

A. The only ordinance which requires a warning is 505.19. This ordinance refers to yard maintenance. A resident is given one warning to clean up dog feces. If the offense occurs again a ticket may be written.
